Can CuVerro® surfaces be waxed or coated by another material (i.e. polyurethane)?

Q: Can CuVerro® surfaces be waxed or coated by another material (i.e. polyurethane)?

A: No. Copper is a “living metal" and it is the continued interface of copper ions with the environment that makes copper such an effective antimicrobial agent. Residual surface coatings, lacquers, waxes, oils or films would obstruct the interaction between the bacteria and the copper that is essential to the antimicrobial action. CuVerro® antimicrobial alloys should never have residual surface coatings.
