Operator Interface Technology Puts Antimicrobial Copper Power at Your Fingertips with New CuVerro® Keyboards, Keypads

Aug 13, 2013

Louisville, KY (PRWEB) - Marking another milestone in the ever-expanding universe of antimicrobial copper products, Operator Interface Technology has brought the powerful bactericidal properties of CuVerro® touch surfaces to a new line of electronic keyboards and keypads.

Operator Interface Technology, a longtime leader in the development and manufacture of rugged keyboards and keypads used in kiosks, ATMs and other commercial applications, is looking to the new CuVerro line to open doors in the healthcare industry. And for good reason.

In a recent survey conducted by the Copper Development Association, nearly 20% of infection control practitioners ranked computer keyboards among the highest-risk surfaces for the spread of infection.

“Of all the devices you’ll find in today’s clinical environment, the keyboard may be one of the hardest to clean effectively,” an OIT spokesperson said. “Many claim to be ‘washable,’ but the reality is, these products deliver no proactive bactericidal action between cleanings. Only our CuVerro keyboards can do that.” Indeed. Lab tests show that with regular cleaning, CuVerro copper touch surfaces eliminate 99.9% of bacteria* within 2 hours of exposure. As such, they represent the only class of solid surface materials registered by the EPA as effective in killing bacteria* between cleanings.

OIT’s new keyboards, which include separate models with a built-in trackball, an NAV Switch, and a full numeric keypad, feature CuVerro touch surfaces on the keys and entire front plate. All are sealed to facilitate safe, easy cleaning with any commercial cleaning product. And all are “plug and play” H.I.D devices with no drivers to load.

The company has also added a line of CuVerro models to its popular MVP Series entry door keypads, which are ideal for hospitals and any other public access point where continuous bactericidal action is desirable.

“OIT’s new keyboard and keypad line is just one more illustration of the extraordinary potential for CuVerro, today and tomorrow,” said Peter Gude, CuVerro’s Business Development Director. “We see the company as an ideal partner in our long-term effort to develop a wide range of innovative products for the healthcare market and beyond.”

*Laboratory testing shows that, when cleaned regularly, CuVerro surfaces kill greater than 99.9% of the following bacteria within 2 hours of exposure: Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus aureus, Entrerobacter aerogenes,Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli O157:H7 and, Vancomycin – Resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE).

The use of CuVerro® antimicrobial copper products is a supplement to and not a substitute for standard infection control practices; users must continue to follow all current infection control practices, including those practices related to cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces. This surface has been shown to reduce microbial contamination, but it does not necessarily prevent cross contamination. It should not be interpreted that CuVerro is making claims to solely prevent bacterial infections nor should it be implied that CuVerro products make such claims.

CuVerro is an Olin Brass company wholly owned by GBC Metals, Inc. and the world leader in providing antimicrobial copper surfaces for product manufacturers serving the healthcare, education, hospitality, and select other industries.
